The landmark project, which has taken 15 years to complete, involved the transformation of the cathedral’s medieval Fratry building as it prepared to welcome the public for the first time with a new café pavilion, as well as teaching and learning spaces.
Main contractor Cubby Joinery, in collaboration with the architect, selected the Silver Falls grey flecked décor for the servery and food preparation areas in the single storey café pavilion. The expansive counter-top, which forms a focal point of the new bustling café, complements the tinted lime plaster interior walls, wooden furniture and terrazzo flooring to complete this light and welcoming space. The material was selected for its unique benefits: durability, easy maintenance, repairability and fire resistance, as well as its compliance with NSF-51 (food hygiene certification for use in food preparation areas). Durasein was also able to meet the clients’ requirements on cost and immediate availability from IDS’s extensive stockholding.
